Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla (TSLA.O), stated on Monday that he hoped to have Tesla’s self-driving technology ready by the end of the year and hopes it would be widely available in the United States and maybe in Europe, depending on regulatory permission.
Musk stated his concentration was presently on his SpaceX Starship spacecraft and self-driving Tesla electric vehicles when speaking at an energy conference in Norway.
Getting our Starship into orbit and making Tesla vehicles capable of self-driving are the two technologies I am concentrating on and hoping to complete before the end of the year.
Depending on regulatory permission, Musk said, “Have self-driving in wide distribution at least in the U.S., and… perhaps in Europe.”
Earlier, Musk stated that in order to maintain civilization, the globe must continue to extract oil and gas while simultaneously creating sustainable forms of energy.
On the fringes of the conference, Musk told reporters, “Realistically I think we need to utilize oil and gas in the medium term, because else civilization would fall.”
Musk responded when asked whether Norway should keep drilling for oil and gas, “I think some extra exploration is needed at this moment.”
The switch to sustainable energy and a sustainable economy is one of the largest challenges the world has ever faced, he added. It will take several decades to finish that. He claimed that fixed battery packs and offshore wind power generation in the North Sea might become a significant source of energy. In the winter, it may offer a reliable, sustainable energy source, he added.
